How percentages work
X% of Y = (X รท 100) ร Y. So 20% of 150 = 30. To find what percent one number is of another, divide and multiply by 100: 45 รท 180 ร 100 = 25%. For change: (new โ old) รท old ร 100 โ from 80 to 100 is +25%.

Find X% of the price, then subtract. A 30% discount on $120 is $36 off, so you pay $84.
What is the difference between % and percentage points?
Going from 20% to 25% is a rise of 5 percentage points โ but a 25% relative increase (5 รท 20 ร 100).
How do I add a percentage to a number?
Multiply by (1 + X รท 100). Adding 15% to 200 gives 200 ร 1.15 = 230.
